Updates Since Our First Friendly

Posted in AEK, Friendlies, Singings with tags , , , , , , , on July 31, 2015 by alexaek

We’ve played two games since our first friendly against Hapoel Tel Aviv, both ending in wins for AEK. The first was a 2-0 win against Korona Kielce with a goal scored by Chrisantus and a beauty by Vargas.

The second was another game against an Israeli team, this time a 1-0 win against Hapoel Jerusalem. Our goal was scored by Galo and while I didn’t know he was able to shoot the way he did on that goal, I’m definitely very excited to learn that he can! His goal was one of those shots that I was able to just watch over and over again and I’m hoping there’s more to come.

Its still early at this point, but the friendlies have made it clear so far that while we have some very talented players and we’re starting to gel as a team, there’s still a long way to go before we’re ready to be a strong team in the league. People have also been commenting on how we desperately still need another two or three solid singings. We have depth as far as subs are concerned, but we’ll definitely need to boost a few positions (left back particularly).

Speaking of left backs, it seems we’re quite close to singing Karim Havez. I had never heard of him before he was linked with us, but he looks like he would be an excellent addition to the team in an attacking sense. Good pace, good skills, good shots, and a great eye for the perfect pass. He’s also quite young, being only 19, so there’s still plenty of potential to look forward to. Hopefully something is announced in the coming days.

AEK 1-1 Hapoel Tel Aviv

First friendly of the season for us ending in a draw, though really the result matters little. Dellas took the opportunity to try out a number of different lineups and formations but its still a bit early to be making any solid judgments on the team and players. All the reports I’ve read so far have mentioned that Vargas really stood out, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of him.

Our next friendly is this Sunday against Polish team Korona Kielce.

Pre-Season Training

For anyone who would like to see some video from today’s training session in Poland, check out AEK365’s post here.

Not yet sure if a link will be available, but we will be playing our first friendly of the season against Hapoel this Thursday, 6:00 Greek time. I’ll be at work so the best I can hope for is to follow some text commentary as the match is going on, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of experimenting from Dellas over these next few singings, particularly with our attacking midefielders and attackers. With Vargas, Simoes, Barbosa, Platellas, Aravidis, Djebbour and others, Dellas will certainly not be limited in terms of possible attacking formations. I’m curious especially to see how Dellas will deal with both Aravidis and Djebbour. I for one would not mind seeing both on at the same time, I think they can compliment each other somewhat, particularly with Simoes and Vargas supporting them a bit further back in the pitch.

AEK Sign Alain Baroja

We have officially announced the singing of Venezuelan national keeper Alain Baroja. Not a keeper I’m familiar with, but he sounds like a decent singing and from video clips I’ve seen, it certainly seems like he’s able to count when it matters most. Either way, its a relief that we’ve finally signed a keeper one way or another since we definitely needed a change from Anestis.

Hopefully we’ll see Baroja in action in a few week’s time for some of our upcoming friendlies.

AEK – Platanias To Be First Home Match

The draw for this year’s superleague took place today in Athens and I really can’t find too much to complain about how it ended up. I was worried we’d have two derbies one after the other but we’ve managed to avoid that this year. This matches will be the following:

AEK-Platanias
Xanthi-AEK
AEK-Giannena
PAOK-AEK
Team B-AEK
AEK-Atromitos
Olympiakos-AEK
AEK-Iraklis
Panathinaikos-AEK
AEK-Asteras Tripolis
Panthrakikos-AEK
AEK-Panaitolikos
AEK-Kalloni
Panionios-AEK
AEK-Team A

I’m still not sure about dates for the matches, as far as I know they have not yet been posted. I’m also not sure who will be taking the places of teams A and B, Im assuming that will be know fairly soon.

As much as I don’t want AEK to be involved with the typical Superleague nonesense anymore, I’m really looking forward to seeing us play some big matches again. Its been far too long since I experienced that indescribable feeling that we get when we beat a team like PAO or Oly.

Vargas and Andreopoulos Sign, Friendly with Inter Announced

Posted in AEK, Basketball, Friendlies, Pre-season, Singings with tags , , , , , on July 11, 2015 by alexaek

Its been a fairly busy few weeks for AEK. Pre-season training has officially started at Spata, and I believe all our players up until now have been involved. A relieving site to see from photos taken of our practises was that of Mantalos training on the pitch again. I’m not exactly sure what the timeline is as far as his return to actual playing is, but the fact hes now active on the pitch again is promising enough for me at the moment.

Since my last post we made two more official signings, the first being Ronald Vargas. I know it was pretty much a done deal for a while now, but I was getting a bit worried since I had yet to see an official announcement for quite a while. Especially considering his promising performances during the Copa America, I was worried he’d be picked up by another time. My fears ended up being for nothing, as he was in fact officially announced.

We also signed promising Greek Kyrgiakos Andreopoulos. I read that there was a lot of interest from Olympiakos which makes this singing that much more satisfying.

Our season ticket sales have so far been quite impressive, especially considering the times in Greece at the moment. Last I read we sold 2,000 season tickets, which if I understood correctly was more than wed sold at this point in previous seasons. In addition to the promising signings we’ve made, I’m sure the fact that we not only have a friendly with Sevilla coming up, but now also one with Inter, have helped to boost sales. Normally we get one tough opponent to play against in the pre-season friendlies, but this summer we’ll be treated to two and I know I’m certainly looking forward to both of them.

Some news regarding our Basketball team now. Our Euro Cup group was announced a few days ago and unfortunately its not the easiest group we could have hoped for. The two biggest threats to me are Galatasaray, a team that played in Euro League last year, as well Israeli side Hapoel Jerusalem. It wont be an easy group, but we will definitely have a lot of good games to look forward. Seeing AEK back in European basketball once again is definitely something I’m really anticipating.
