Greece Lose to Switzerland; AEK’s Kyrgiakos Gets Injured

Bad news all around this morning for fans of Greece and AEK.  After ho-hum wins against Latvia and Moldova, the Greeks lost their first real test against what is still just a middling Swiss side, though one that has shown some signs of improvement, particularly during Euro 2008 (when they were without several key players though still played incredibly well while being eliminated from a very tough group that included Portugal, Turkey and the Czech Republic). And Greece has yet to play Israel who currently sit just a point behind Greece in the group standings and are in the midst of a 17-game unbeaten streak in World Cup qualifying fixtures.

Adding insult to injury for Greek fans is the news that National Team center back and AEK captain, Kyrgiakos, picked up a muscle rupture during the first half of the match and will be out for one to two months now.
