Former Fulham and Xanthi Striker Radzinski Speaks Out On Greek Super Leage Corruption

AEK fans are as familiar as any Greek fans with the suspicious way decisions are made (or not made, or unmade) by the EPO (the Greek FA). Last year, as has been well-documented on this blog, Olympiacos was able to take the League Championship from AEK through a shady court maneuver (essentially Oly argued that the result of a game they lost should be reversed because their opponent fielded an ineligible player — and shockingly, the EPO agreed wtih them and reversed the result even though the EPO itself had originally cleared the so-called ineligible player). Furthermore, rumors have circulated for years that certain games are fixed and that game officials are corrupt.

Take the rumors for what you will, but I think Radzinski’s recent statements lend some credibility to these rumors. Radzinski is a hard working professional. I’ve admired him since his time at the Craven Cottage (home of the EPL team I support, Fulham Football Club). He’s never been the loud-mouth type. And given the tremendous impact he made in the Super League last year, it was surprising to seem him off to Belgium before the new season even got started. Well, now we’ve got an explanation of sorts.
