Rivaldo Explains Himself
Rivaldo finaly explains, in a little more detail, how and why he abandoned AEK for the football hinterland of Uzbekistan. A few things to note about this article. First, Bunyodkor general director Tavakkal Kadirovich is quoted as saying the negotiations took two months. SO basically as soon as last season was over the talks started. One can safely assume that our soon to be ex-Chairman Demis along with some key players who have since left, such as Dellas and Lyberopoulos, knew he was leaving for most of the Summer. Indeed, it appears the only ones truly surprised by this development were the fans (and even then, not really). One thing I will credit AEK’s management with though: they can keep a secret when they want to. The second thing to note is this quote:
“If you look at the trophies Rivaldo has won, there is only the Asian Champions League left to win.”
Au contraire (”Not True!” in French, I think)! There is also the MLS Cup!!! Actually, there are a whole lot of trophies not in his case, but whatever.

Actually, a newspaper, Gata (the cat), broke the story about a month before Rivaldo’s announcement. It didn’t really get much publicity because Gata writes some pretty outrageous stuff, but often this summer, they were first to report some major happenings.
