Where in the World is Clint Mathis?

Back in January, I let you all know that though we don’t normally post non-AEK-related Greek League news, I would make an exception for yanks in Greece stories and other news bits that were just too weird to go un-commented upon.  So, eight months ago, I posted the Mathis to Ergotelis bizareneess (I got hundreds of hits — I had no idea so many people cared where Mathis was these days).

Today, a friend at work and super soccer nerd Ian Campbell gave me the head’s up on Mathis’s latest whereabouts, emailing me the following:

I am hearing that a deal between Real Salt Lake and the much-traveled Clint Mathis is imminent, though it is unclear whether all the paperwork would be done in time for him to suit up in Saturday’s Western Conference showdown at Houston. Los Angeles holds Mathis’s MLS rights and would be compensated by Real.

RSL, which has two roster spots to fill, is also pursuing an Argentine forward.“
