AEK News, Transfers, Updates and Press Clippings
Alex is off on vacation and I’ve been busy at work, on my amatuer team AEK Baltimore (three games in three days) and nursing a nasty case of Athletic Pubalgia, so we’ve let the blog slide a few days. My apologies.
The news has really started to pile up.
AEK destroyed Turkish-side Ancaragucu on Sunday in Austria. The match concluded AEK’s round of friendlies in Austria, which made up the bulk of their pre-season preparation. AEK won 5-0 with goals by Scocco, Blanco, Majstorovic, Pavlis, and Burns. Here are the goals:
The Whites (aka, the Bolton Wanderers of the English Premier League) have landed in Greece. They played Aris last night in a competitive 1-1 draw. Sky Sports news has the report here. AEK play them Friday night (around 2:30 PM U.S. East Coast time, I think).
Basinas signing for AEK is old news, but the press on this transfer is here and here.
UEFA also reported on the Kyrgiakos transfer here.
And AEK’s second attempt in as many years to sign a quality left back, this time in the form of Spanish international Juanfran, is covered here.
Papastathopoulos’s bitter-sweet departure for Italy is covered here.
In other news, AEK’s former striker Lyberopoulos scored his first goal for new club Eintracht Frankfurt over the weekend and AEK’s former center back Dellas saw his new team, Anorthosis Famagusta FC, draw Olympiacos in the Champions League third qualifying round.
For our part, AEK has drawn Cypriot club AC Omonia for the UEFA Cup second qualifying round.
