AEK 3-1 Ergotelis Match Report

On Sunday against Ergotelis we lined up like this:

Lyberopoulos—Blanco
Rivaldo———–Edinho
Zikos—Kafes
Georgeas————–Bourbos
Papastathopouoos—Dellas
Macho

And we scored straight away. Kafes, who had a brilliant game all around, drew a foul in the box. Rivaldo’s resulting penalty kick easily found net. There was some commotion on the field before the penalty kick with Ergotelis players protesting that Kafes handled the ball right before the foul but the replays showed the ball glanced off his chest, not his arm.

Gorgeas is regaining form.  He reliably interrupted play, intercepted passes, moved the ball up-field and hsi runs off the ball were quick and created space.  Most of his crosses, however, failed to reach their targets and were usually intercepted.

Our second goal game in the 39th minute.  Kafes crossed to Lyberopoulos in front of the goal.  Lybe stopped the ball but seemed to stumble over it.  Kafes, who had run behind his own pass, picked up the ball from behind Lybe, and fired in a scorcher.  2-0.

The third goal also involved Kafes, this time a perfect cross to Blanco who headed in our third goal.

Ergotelis only scored once, but it was a troubling goal.  In the 53rd minute, a well placed corner kick found an Ergotelis man completely unmarked at the back post.  An easy goal, too easy.  Dellas needs to do a better job organizing the palyers on defensive set pieces.  We can’t concede goals because of amatuerish mistakes like this.  Against a better team, such as PAOK next week, this will cost us points.
