Odds and Ends
In Sunday’s post (just below this one) I hinted that Ferrer may not have been as composed off camera as he appeared on camera. The Greek press, in an interview with Veria’s coach, has confirmed that Ferrer berated Veria’s coaching staff and players at half time over AEK’s disputed third goal, which looked to everyone to have resulted from an imaginary foul after a missed offsides call. So much for the newly composed Ferrer…
Still no transfer news. As I’ve said before, we could really benefit from a few shrewd signings, particularly in the midfield. Also, my friend Harry (huge Panathinaikos fan) has renewed his prediction that AEK will win the league. His formula is based on the premise than none of the big three teams have been playing that well away from home and AEK has the most home game remaining. Not exactly scientific, but I’ll take whatever encouragement I can get after our recent performances.
In Greek National Team news, it looks like we’ll know by the end of March whether King Otto is staying. Let’s hope he does since he had done so well for us and since anecdotal evidence suggests that manager longevity improves results. Just look at Arse Wenger.
Finally, having just battled to a draw in their league derby this past Saturday, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos square off again tomorrow in the Greek Cup.
